[vc_row][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1480351262471{background-color: #f7f7f7 !important;}”][vc_column_text]The new Nikon PC NIKKOR 19mm f/4E ED is out. I’ve been testing it for 2 weeks on a few assignments, plus shot some samples, comparing the RAWs with similar focal lenses. For high end architecture and real estate photography work, this is the lens to go with.
Since have sold my MF Phase One P45+/Schneider 28mm LS that I beleive would have been the only match for the quallity of the lens, beside using a technical camera such Alpa Max.
In my comparaison, i’ve used the excellent Sigma 20mm F1.4 Art lens, but also the Tamron 15-30mm VR zoom (again, quiet impressive considering it’s a zoom and the low price point). Plus i’ve used the trusted Nikkor 14-24 F2.8.
Overall, Both Nikkor lenses show better contrast and colour range, whilst the Sigma is sharper bellow f8. I would say that all 4 lenses are excellent quality. The nikkor aren’t hte sharpest, but they make up for it with the colour and contrast ranges
The PC19 price difference is for the invaluable perspective control feature, essential for any architectural work.
Compared to the rest of the PC Nikkor range ( I own the full set 19, 24, 28, 35, 45 and 85mm) the new model is a completely different lens, much, much improved quality. Tilt/shift is available in any combination. There is one robust screw nob that allows shift in any direction, unlike the flimsy lock we had in previous models.
Please note this is in no way a scientific and precise test, so I’ve enclosed the RAWs for those who fancy going deep into the comparison.
I shot everything on a Nikon D810 with 2 seconds timer delay/electronic shutter/mirror up, gitzo tripod and RRS ballhead. image profile set to standard.
I read some complained that the lens wasn’t wide enough compared to the Canon 17mm PC. Well, i prefer 19mm, as IMHO, it reached the limit of super wide angle induced perspective distortion between fore ground and background objects.
In conclusion,
If you shoot interior and exterior architecture subject commercially, the 19PC is a must-have lens. Otherwise, I would stick to regular lenses, as the 4000€+ price paid (including extended warranty as PC lenses require regular maintenance) isn’t justified compared to rectilinear lenses.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2009″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” onclick=”link_image”][vc_column_text]Here bellow i want to show you another example[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2014″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” onclick=”link_image”][vc_column_text]The PC19mm left and right shift stitches.
